As so many Punjabi movies are coming up out of them one expected High End Yaariyan to be different among the rest. But we were left disappointed. It is not only a movie based on friendship but also about romance. This movie’s run time will be 122 minutes.
The movie has been directed by Pankaj Batra. Its a story about 3 friends. Karan Veer(Jassie Gill as a casanova), Sachin(Ninja as nerdy looking ‘bahman’) & Manga Singh Randhawa(Ranjit Bawa as the Desi Guy). They all stay at Jassie’s house in UK. In the movie, Jassie as the rich guy, Bawa as guy from Punjab & Ninja is there for her girlfriend overseas dream has been shown. Their love interests are Celina(Aarushi Sharma), Mandy(Muskan Sethi) & Seerat(Navneet Kaur Dhillon).
The film went flat on our faces.
Ninja had already stated that the most fond of role would be of Ranjit Bawa. After watching the movie we can surely say Ninja was right. Bawa emerges the best among 3 friends when it comes to acting. His comic timing stands out.
The heroines didn’t have much of a role. During the business end of the story, Navneet Kaur Dhillon gaining the most importance. Talking of Aarushi Sharma, she did her dubbing by herself. Muskan Sethi made her debut with this movie & displayed prospects of bagging more roles after this movie.
The romantic angles of the 3 actors didn’t create any reality at all. At one point, it looked like anything will happen at one point. Even if it made sense or not.
None of the characters was placed appreciatively. That’s where the expectation rises & they fell flat. None of the female characters chosen were apt to their roles. Each actress has been given a bad introduction. Ninja’s Chandigarh waali girlfriend has been an offence to true Chadigarhians. Her persona & her slang weren’t the best.
Ranjit Bawa’s direction lacked the way he showed the character of Gurnam Bhullar. Ultimately, the role of Gurnam Bhullar as a millionaire was shown as very substandard as his marriage was very sasti jehi & with a girl wearing a very mediocre outfit. Same has been shown by Jassie Gill’s character. Merely showing a person with grey hair doesn’t mean he is old. They should have shown more to hollow life that they were living in. Be the shooting in UK or in Punjab, the movie has been taken for granted.
Direction has been very weak. The direction lacks vision & the storyline lacks conviction. His cinematography which is Pankaj Batra’s strength has lacked in this movie.
The music of High End Yaariyan has been liked a lot. Especially 2 Punjabi songs ‘Churai Janda Hai’ (sung by Jassie Gill, written by Nirmaan & music given by GoldBoy). Also ‘Rabba Ve’(written by Jaani sung & music composed by B Praak). Otherwise, the music of the film is average.
Otherwise, the movie lacked soul. You will be left numb & bored after watching the film. You must wonder whether the makers of the film were on holidays while making of the film.
This movie deserves only 2 out of 5 stars from us.
